Common Causes for Blood Clots

By: Pathkind Labs 17 Jun 2019 236 Views

The human blood flows through the blood vessels (arteries and veins), and it is constantly in action as the heart pumps blood through arteries to the different areas (organs, glands, cells etc.) of the body. Without the motion, the blood has a propensity to stagnate by gravity, and stagnant blood has the propensity to clot.

Sometimes, clotting is important so as to prevent excessive bleeding if one gets injured or cut. But, when a blood clot blocks the blood flow to the important areas in the body, it can be harmful and even deadly. There many areas in the body such as arms, legs, abdomen (stomach), heart, lungs, brain, and kidneys where blood clots can occur.

When a blood clot takes place in an artery, it’s known as an arterial clot. This type of clot causes symptoms immediately and requires emergency treatment. The symptoms of an arterial clot may include severe pain, paralysis of parts of the body, or both. It can even lead to a heart attack or stroke.

There are two different forms of blood clots. These may include clots that stay in place and do not move, which are called thrombosis. These break away from the spot where they are developed and they try to move to different areas inside the body these are called embolism. Depending on what the clot has blocked or where it has moved, blood clots can be fatal.
