Frequently asked questions

The normal range for each of these markers can vary depending on the gestational age of the pregnancy and the laboratory that performs the test. In general, the following are the normal ranges for each marker:

AFP: 10-150 ng/m:
hCG: 25-300 mIU/mL
Estriol: 30-200 ng/mL
Inhibin A: 0.5-2.0 ng/mL

The cost of the Quadruple marker test in India can vary depending on various factors such as the location, the laboratory, and the hospital where the test is being conducted. Some government hospitals and healthcare centers may offer the Quadruple marker test at a subsidized cost or for free as part of their antenatal care services.

The double marker test measures two substances in a pregnant woman's blood: beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A). On the other hand, the quadruple marker test measures four substances in a pregnant woman's blood: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), beta-hCG, estriol, and inhibin A. Both tests have their strengths and weaknesses. The quadruple marker test is better at detecting neural tube defects and is more accurate than the double marker test in women over 35 years old. In contrast, the double marker can be useful for assessing the risk of Down syndrome in women under 35 years old.

Like any medical test, the quadruple marker test is not 100% accurate and can sometimes give false positive or false negative results. False positive results occur when the test indicates that there is a problem with the pregnancy, but in fact, the pregnancy ishealthy. False-negative results occur when the test indicates that the pregnancy is healthy, but, in fact, there is a problem with the pregnancy. More tests are needed to confirm an abnormal result.
