The ADA test will measure the amount of adenosine deaminase in the body. The ADA
should be present in the exact required amount. If the quantity of ADA increases in pleural
space, the person might suffer from several infections. With the help of the ADA test, one
can determine the presence of infections in the pleural space. ADA test also helps measure
the presence of diseases like tuberculosis and fibrosis. Even though ADA is an important
enzyme, it should not be present in more than the required quantity.
You need an ADA test to rule out the possibility of tuberculosis. If you have a continuous
cough for many days, you might have a suspicion of tuberculosis. With the help of an ADA
test, you can determine whether it is tuberculosis or just a normal cough. You also need the
ADA test to confirm any infection in the pleural space. Besides determining infections in
bodily fluids, one can also measure their ADA levels with an Adenosine Deaminase (ADA)
test.
Several symptoms might indicate that you have an infection in the pleural space.
Tuberculosis is linked with infection in the pleural space. Besides infection in the pleural
space, one might also have infections in peritoneal or cerebrospinal fluids, which can be
determined with an ADA test. Pulmonary fibrosis is another disease that is caused due to
abnormal ADA levels in the body. If you are experiencing symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis,
you might need an ADA test. Some symptoms that lead to an ADA test are as follows:
• Night sweats
• Prolonged cough
• Blood in cough
• Chills
• Weak immune system
• Pain in the chest area
• Unexplained loss of weight
The Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) test will indicate the levels of ADA in the body. With the
help of the ADA level in the pleural space, doctors can determine the presence of
Mycobacterium, a bacterium that causes tuberculosis.
In males and females, the normal level of ADA is less than 40 U/L. The normal level for ADA
applies to people of all ages.
Very few labs offer home sample collection facilities for an Adenosine Deaminase (ADA)
test. Even if home sample collection for an Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) test is available,
you will have to pay extra.
