The Cytogenetics Department processes a spectrum of samples using Conventional Karyotyping and Fluorescence in-situ Hybridization (FISH) for evaluating the genome at the chromosomal and genetic level. The technologies used in the Section are of immense value in providing diagnostic and prognostic information in- Hematological disorders- Acute & Chronic Leukemias, MPNs Genetic disorders- Chromosomal associated Syndromes Prenatal identification of genetic disorders Fertility Assessment during Assisted Reproduction Assessment of genetic causes of recurrent miscarriages

The primary techniques used in Cytogenetics are- Conventional Karyotyping- provides genetic information at the level of the Chromosome FISH- helps in identification of genetic variations at the subchromosomal or the Gene level.
