The Molecular Biology Department processes a spectrum of specimen for interrogating the sample at the genetic level. The tools that we use are capable of identifying genetic variations as small as one nucleotide change to as large as the loss of a chromosome. This section is equipped with the best in class fully automated systems. This section is also designed in a way to allow unilateral air flow only which helps avoid contamination.
The primary techniques used in the Department are – Qualitative & Quantitative PCRs, Genetic & Genomic Testing using NGS & Capillary electrophoresis (Sanger Sequencing). The Tests that we perform add value in providing diagnostic and prognostic information in - Infectious diseases, Hematological disorders, Companion Diagnostics and Biomarkers Testing for Solid tumors, Genetic disorders,prenatal identification of genetic disorders, Fertility Assessment during Assisted Reproduction.
Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, coronaviruses mainly cause respiratory tract infections. It could be mild illness (like the common cold) or lethal illness, depending on the virus. The previously discovered coronaviruses are rhinoviruses, SARS, MERS, and the recent one is COVID-19. COVID-19 is an infectious disease that first originated from Wuhan, China in December 2019. Within a few weeks, it spread globally at an exponential rate and WHO declared it as a global pandemic on March 2020.
